You're attending the biggest day of someone's life. Dress like you care. That means you should wear a suit. To make this easy, let me lay it out for you... DO - Wear a solid suit. - Navy and Charcoal are all season great colors. - If it's in the spring or summer, try linen or chambray! - If it's in fall or winter, try flannel! DON'T - Wear black or white. - Wear a patterned or striped suit.
I'm often asked if sport coats and blazers are appropriate for wedding wear. The answer varies based on where the wedding is taking place. Traditionally the answer is no, however, with the casual direction America has taken as a whole, it's probably safe to wear a sport coat or a blazer to a wedding without causing a stir.
Wear fun, complementary accessories.
Since the ideal suit is solid, that means you can have lot's of fun with your shirt, tie, and pocket square. Wear complimentary colors based around the season the wedding occurs. If you plan far enough ahead, consider creating a custom combination that will fit you perfectly and be uniquely yours.
One last thing.
Brown shoes have been the preferred pairing for both grey and blue suits and trousers for at least the last decade or so. Match the darkness of brown with the darkness of suit that you are wearing. If you are wearing a dark charcoal, then wear a dark chocolate brown shoe. If you are wear in a light grey or bright blue, then a nice tan shoe would be perfect.
